My Current Desk Setup: MacBook Pro with External Monitor : Behind-the-Scenes

Have you ever wanted to have more desktop screen space but didn’t want to buy a PC or iMac? I felt the same way and decided to convert my Macbook Pro into a desktop while I was sitting at my desk in my home office.

I started my YouTube channel in 2017 and editing videos on my previous 2010 13” Macbook Air was hard on such a small screen and older laptop. I looked into buying an iMac but then realized that I could setup an external monitor instead to get more screen space.

Earlier this year I upgraded to a Macbook Pro and the accessories and video below are what I am currently using as my desk setup. It’s great for editing videos while I’m sitting at my desk and when I’m not as my desk I can just use my laptop.

The best part about this setup is that you save money by using an external monitor, keyboard and mouse instead of buying a desktop computer.

This setup cost me under $500 and a new iMac starts at $1200. Win!!

Why I switched from Teachable to Thinkific : Teachable vs Thinkific

As a small business owner, you might want to create an online course at some point and that’s great. There are SO many strategies and information out there about creating online courses. This post will hopefully help you find a good platform for yours!

I did things backward with my small business. I jumped straight into building a course BEFORE growing my email list, building trust with my audience, and networking with other business owners.

I learned so many lessons and if I could do it over again I would choose a course topic that is related to what I want to do instead of what I am good at. Because as we know, because you’re good at something doesn’t mean that you should do it.

Online Courses That I Have Taken and Recommend

The important thing to remember when taking online courses is that they won't work unless you do. Of course, you'll have some that you just don't feel like work out best for you and your business. Before you buy a course, be sure to do your research, make sure that it's something that you have time/money for and is something that you really want to work on.

I have taken a few courses that really weren't as great as the teacher perceived, or on par with where I was at that time and that was disappointing. So again, do your research.

You can research courses before you take them by:

  • Googling the course name and reading reviews
  • Reaching out to someone that you know has previously taken a course and asking them any questions that you may have
  • Finding a FAQ for the course and reach out to the teacher or team
  • Search in Facebook groups that you are active in

I love taking courses that help me in areas that I'm not proficient in, want to expand on or were recommended to me. Inside my Simplify Your Biz Tools free course, I listed these out in more detail, you can enroll here for free!

How to Create a Video Intro or Video Bumper for Your Videos

When I first started doing videos, I learned all kinds of new terms like lower third, bokeh and video bumper.

The bumper was the first one that I tackled and I’m thankful that I did. Think of a video bumper as being similar to a bumper on your car, it protects your car on both the front and the back. A video bumper does the same thing, it frames your video.

Does that make sense?

It’s also known as an intro! Of course, you don’t have to have an intro/video bumper but it does help you and your videos look a little bit more put together!

If you want to go ahead and watch the video training you can do so below, if you'd like the step by step walkthrough continuing reading below the video.

How to Post Content Consistently for Your Online Business

How many times have you thought, "How do they stay so consistent with their content?"

This is a question that I get A LOT inside my Facebook group. I definitely don't feel like I am as consistent with my content as I could be but I have noticed that when I am consistent, amazing things do happen.

Now don't get me wrong, it’s very easy to get caught up with trying to do all.of.the.things.

Here are FIVE things that will help you post content consistently for your online business:

1. Set your goals.

How to Benefit from Affiliate Marketing (Without Having a Huge Audience)

Disclosure: There are some affiliate links below, but these are for products that I highly recommend. I only share things that I love and use regularly. Thank you so much for your support!

Have you heard that you can use affiliate marketing for your online business?

I used to think that all you needed to do with affiliate marketing was place your affiliate link or banner up on your blog and then you would just start making money. While that method does work for some, that is not how I made it work for me.

Even though I don't have THOUSANDS of people on my email list, I have made over $2K via affiliate marketing in the past couple of months.

Here's the thing, instead of throwing up links on my site, I share WHY I love these products and HOW to use them too! With affiliate marketing, I am able to get paid for this, so it's a win-win situation! YOU can do this too!

Now all affiliate relationships are not equal, for some companies you will have a referral link, a promo code, an affiliate link or etc.

You can benefit from affiliate marketing in a lot of different ways:

7 Tailwind Tribes for Creative Bloggers to Boost Their Traffic

Have you heard of Tailwind Tribes? I LOVE using Tailwind Tribes.

Tailwind Tribes are similar to a group board on Pinterest but better. It's more exclusive, you have to be invited or have a special link invitation to join and you're able to connect with other marketers, bloggers, etc. within your niche.

If you're interested in learning about Tailwind, check out my Ultimate Guide to Using Tailwind for Pinterest here

Tailwind Tribes are great because they are more niched down than a Pinterest group board and you can get the statistics from the tribes that you're in. Here's an example of the reach and repins that I received from one of my tribes.
